History

Metallurgica Bresciana S.p.a is a company with a century-old history: its roots date back to the famous Vezzoli foundries, which have been operating in the Brescia area since 1880, specialising in the processing and marketing of non-ferrous metals.

Since 1968, Metallurgica Bresciana, led by the Ghitti brothers, has been producing insulation for cables: the first production facility was built in Passirano, at the gates of Franciacorta, where in the early years the processing primarily focused on multi-tube copper for instrumentation in the Oil & Gas sector.

In the 1970s, the company expanded production and marketing to include cables for the wiring of electronic products, becoming a supplier to international giants such as IBM, Philips, and Honeywell; during this period, the first cables for the electromedical sector were also developed, along with the initial supplies of special cables for the growing international nuclear installation market.

The 1980s, on the other hand, are characterised by entry into the Military sector and, by obtaining NATO AQAP-4 certification, the production of low voltage cables used by both national and foreign Naval Forces is initiated.

In the 1990s, Metallurgica Bresciana moved to a new industrial complex located in Dello, still in the province of Brescia, where it became a production centre for precision optical fibre cables and began manufacturing cables for the railway sector, known as "on-board train cables", as well as miniaturised cables resistant to high temperatures for railway and industrial applications. This sector was enhanced through a significant investment for the construction of the first and only linear electron accelerator in Italy.

In 1996, an important change occurs at the corporate level: the company merges into the financial group Compagnia Bresciana Investimenti S.p.A. In the same year, the construction of a second warehouse in Dello begins, and in 1999 a third is built, where all the production lines from the factory in Passirano are permanently relocated, which was closed at the beginning of the 2000s.

In 1991, Metallurgica Bresciana obtained the Iso 9001 quality certification.

In 2008, Metallurgica Bresciana obtained the environmental certification ISO 14001.

In 2015, the company began the construction of a new industrial building intended to accommodate new production lines for optical fibre cables.

In 2018, Metallurgica Bresciana S.p.A. celebrated its fiftieth anniversary. In the same year, the company was acquired by STL Sterlite Technologies Limited, a world leader in the production of optical fibres and cables. Subsequent investments after this acquisition have allowed the company to grow significantly, establishing itself as one of the key players in the European optical cables market.

In 2023, Metallurgica Bresciana obtained ethical and health and safety certifications ISO 45001 and SA8000.

In 2025, to cope with the ongoing business growth, we initiated a new expansion with the construction of the fifth warehouse.
